Free colon screening registration and education booths will be located at the Glass Recreation Center, 501 West 32nd Street, on Monday, March 2, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., and on Tuesday, March 17, from 8:00 a.m. until 10 a.m.

On March 23 from noon until 1 p.m., UT Health Northeast will host Lets Talk about Colon Cancer. Dr. Jimmy Morrison will discuss colon cancer prevention and how to be screened. Dr. Edward Sauter will address a Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) grant which pays for free colon cancer screenings or colonoscopies for residents in seven Northeast Texas counties: Smith, Anderson, Cherokee, Henderson, Rusk, Van Zandt, and Wood.

Also on March 23, the Colorectal Cancer Outreach Team at UT Health will host a free event at the One Stop Barber Shop, 1710 Garden Valley Road in Tyler, from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Dr. Bola Olusola will discuss colon cancer prevention, and Dr. Sauter will discuss the CPRIT grant and how to sign up for free colon cancer screenings. Beginning operations in 2009, CPRIT has awarded more than $1 billion in grants to Texas researchers, institutions, non-profits, private enterprises, scientific and product development, and prevention programs to fund groundbreaking cancer research and prevention programs and services in Texas, according to the press materials.
