wantedguyPALESTINE — A man who had been sought by authorities in Palestine is now in custody after being found in Mississippi. According to KETK, officials say at approximately 12:30 Friday morning, members of the Gulf Coast Regional Task Force located and apprehended Troy Mason of Palestine in a Forest, Mississippi, truck stop just off I-20. The Palestine Police Department, the Palestine City Marshal’s Office, the U.S. Marshals Joint East Texas Task Force, The Anderson County Sheriff’s Department, and the Anderson County District Attorney’s Office had been working in conjunction to locate Mason.

The search began this past Monday after an Anderson County Courthouse incident led to a deputy sheriff being assaulted, and Mason escaping, according to authorities. Mason was arrested on a bond revocation for an original charge of continuous sexual assault of a child, as well as possession or distribution of child pornography. Officials say information was obtained from an anonymous source leading officials to believe that Mason would be leaving the state and possibly headed to Mississippi. The Palestine Police Department is also working with law enforcement computer technicians in the region to examine possible evidence gathered during a search warrant executed in early February at Mason’s residence, so police say additional charges may follow. Mason’s bond was raised from $50,000 to $150,000 on the continuous sexual assault of a child charge, and there was no bond set on the child pornography charge.
