Police: Five Longview Stores Cited for Selling Tobacco to Minors

Anti Smoking NYCLONGVIEW — During the first 10 days of March, the Longview Police Department conducted tobacco stings to test the compliance of Longview-area tobacco retailers with Texas tobacco laws. According to KETK, police say the undercover stings utilized 14-16-year-olds, accompanied by Longview police officers, who entered stores and attempted to purchase tobacco products. The stings are funded through a grant issued by the Texas Comptroller’s Office. Citations were issued to the clerk at each location that allegedly sold tobacco to the undercover minor, and the clerk will have to appear at the Longview Municipal Court to resolve the citation.

The undercover officer/minor teams went to 13 different Longview area tobacco retailers and of those, 5 retailers allegedly sold tobacco to the undercover minors. Days later, followup stings were conducted at the locations accused of selling the products illegally. During the followup stings, 2 retailers allegedly sold tobacco to the undercover minors.

The locations accused of selling tobacco products to minors include:

Albertson’s – 3603 McCann Rd
Food Fast – 427 E. Loop 281
Food Fast – 3001 Judson Rd.
Scotties – 401 W. Hawkins Pkwy.
Walgreen’s – 3301 N. 4th St.

The retailers that allegedly sold tobacco to minors twice include:

Food Fast 427 E. Loop 281
Scotties 401 W. Hawkins Pkwy.
