vlcsnap_2015_03_12_16h32m13s57LONGVIEW — A private donation from Alicia Nolte and her daughter Ella was presented Thursday for the Longview Animal Shelter and Adoption Center. KETK reports the $100,000 donation will go directly to the Spay and Neuter Clinic inside the shelter. The contribution awards Alicia Lee and Ella Bleu Nolte the naming rights for that section of the facility. Mayor Jay Dean said for years, Alicia Nolte has been a passionate, die-hard supporter of the multi-million dollar project.

Alicia Nolte said this donation is important to her because East Texas already has so many unwanted animals and this is a way to educate the community on the value of fixing their pets. “It will be remarkable for our community and for our youth to learn how to be responsible pet owners and to get their pets neutered and spayed and to have them licensed and all the responsibilities that go into having a pet,” she said. It’s not a pet, it’s a friend for life.”

This is the first private donation to be presented, and the city said donations are still needed for the shelter. Contributions can be made through the Longview city manager’s office. Ground has been broken to begin construction, and the facility is expected to open spring 2016.
