Man Accused of Hitting Child with Vehicle, Leaving Scene

Adrian GastonPALESTINE — The Palestine Police Department is continuing the investigation into an incident that left a five-year-old child in serious condition. According to KETK, On March 29, shortly before 9:00 p.m, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Victory Street, after receiving a report of a child being hit by a vehicle. Police arrived and found the child had been taken by his father to Palestine Regional Medical Center in a private vehicle for treatment.

During the investigation, police were advised the child was playing at a residence on Victory. Witnesses told police that a man, later identified as 45-year-old Adrian Troy Gaston of Palestine, was leaving a gathering at that location when Gaston’s vehicle ran over the child. Witnesses also told police Gaston left the scene before police arrived. Officers were able to locate the suspect at his residence in the 3000 block of North Jackson Street.

Gaston was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident. Gaston is being held in the Anderson County Jail on $25,000 bond set by Justice of the Peace Carl Davis. The child was taken to a Dallas-area hospital and was listed in serious but stable condition. The incident is still under investigation, as police are trying to determine if alcohol was a factor in the incident.
