Nacogdoches Officer Returning to Duty Following Shooting

Nacogdoches PoliceNACOGDOCHES – A Nacogdoches Police officer, involved in a shooting on March 31st, has been cleared by an internal investigation to return to duty. Officer Corey Seymore will return to full duty this weekend. The information is contained in a press release from the Nacogdoches Police Department’s Professional Standards Unit. The news release added, “The Texas Rangers are conducting an independent criminal investigation, and those results will be reported when completed,” the press release stated. “This case will be presented to the grand jury this Friday.”

The incident stemmed from a disturbance call in the 4700 block of Warr Circle. When officer Seymore arrived, a man was seen reportedly forcing a woman into a vehicle. As the officer approached the vehicle, there was a shot and the woman fell to the ground. The suspect, identified as Rashad Johns, 32, of Nacogdoches, was holding a .357 magnum, tried to go back inside, but was shot by the officer in his arm and lower body. Johns and the woman, Letha Brewer, 30, of Nacogdoches, were both hospitalized.

As per standard policy, the officer involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave pending the completion of the investigation. The officer was not injured in the incident.
