Kim TunnellTYLER – The Mineola ISD Board of Trustees Saturday morning named Tyler ISD Chief Leadership and Performance Officer Kim Tunnell the lone finalist in MISD’s search for a new superintendent. Mrs. Tunnell has served Tyler ISD in various roles since coming to the District in 2001, according to a TISD news release. β€œIt has been an honor to serve Tyler ISD for the past 14 years and I have been blessed to have worked with many amazing staff members committed to the success of every child,” Mrs. Tunnell stated. β€œWe have accomplished some major tasks and great things are in store for Tyler ISD due to the dedication of the employees and the expanding community support and involvement.”

Mrs. Tunnell has also served in Tyler ISD as the Executive Director of Strategic Planning, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Coordinator of Staff Development, Instructional Consultant and Acting Principal on multiple campuses. She additionally served as TISD’s interim superintendent after Gary Mooring stepped down last year, and before current Tyler school chief Marty Crawford was hired. Before joining Tyler ISD, Mrs. Tunnell served in administrative and teaching capacities in the Sierra Sands United School District in California.

In her role as Chief Leadership and Performance Officer, Mrs. Tunnell supervised all campuses as well as Head Start, School Improvement, Title I, Technology, Assessment and Accountability and Staff Development programs. She has been instrumental in leading District administrators, parents and community members in developing a comprehensive strategic plan, according to the news release. Additionally, as Executive Director of Strategic Planning from 2012-2013, Mrs. Tunnell assisted in the development of the Tyler Area Business Education Council.

β€œWe wish Mrs. Tunnell great success as she moves into this new leadership position,” said Crawford. β€œThe Mineola ISD School Board has selected an excellent leader who is an even better person. We are going to miss Kim but we are so happy for her that she has an opportunity to serve as superintendent in such a reputable community as Mineola.” By state law, the Mineola ISD Board of Trustees must wait 21 days before finalizing its decision for superintendent.
