KETK reports a jury needed just 16 minutes to find Desiree Chumbley, 25, guilty of burglary of a habitation. The same jury later assessed the sentence. Jurors heard testimony from Deandre Jones that he and Chumbley kicked in the door of the home of Al Chavira in the middle of the day on January 13, 2014, and went inside. Additional evidence revealed a neighbor watched the burglary in progress from her home as she called 911.

Jacksonville Police Officer Daniel Burrows testified he responded to the 911 call and spotted the men running into a vacant field across the street from the victim’s home. Several officers assisted in capturing both the defendant and Jones in the vicinity of the same vacant field. Chavira identified several items of his property which were recovered in the same vacant field across from his home. In the punishment phase of the trial, the jury learned Chumbley is well known to law enforcement, with a history of burglary, deadly conduct, marijuana possession, and probation violation.
