Cockfighting Investigation Leads to Multiple Arrests

ANGELINA COUNTY — Investigators searched a Huntington property after complaints of cock fighting and gambling Saturday. The Angelina County Sheriff’s Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission and Dallas County District Attorney Office executed the search warrant at 224 Clark Road. Twenty people were arrested and felony charges are expected to be filed. According to KETK, cock fighting paraphernalia, gambling paraphernalia and live animals were seized.

The Dallas SPCA is caring for 300 roosters that have been confiscated following an undercover operation in the Lufkin area. The agency’s Maura Davies says the birds were used in a cockfighting ring. Davies says, “The sad reality is, in most cases…even after they are rescued and removed from that fighting situation, they will continue that incredibly aggressive behavior.” 20 people are under arrest. For now, the birds are being housed in a secret Dallas warehouse.
