Josh BiceTYLER — Robert E. Lee High School senior Josh Bice is one of only 39 students from across the nation to be invited into The University Fellows Experience at The University of Alabama. According to the university, typically 30 to 35 students accept the invitation. The University Fellows Experience, housed in the Honors College, prepares students for leadership and service to their community, state, nation and world. University Fellows receive a Presidential Scholarship (valued at $99,800 over four years or $24,950 per year) for tuition and a $500 stipend per semester to help with additional costs such as fees and books.

Student Body President, National Honor Society member, and honors graduate, Bice has always enjoyed serving others through various volunteer projects and mission trips with his church. When he and his mom came across the University Fellows program he immediately expressed interest. “I am really excited to be a part of The University Fellows Experience because it is a great fit for me,” Bice said. “An honors-based program focused on servant leadership is exactly what I was looking for. I can’t wait to go to Alabama and be a part of it.”

Requirements for acceptance into the Honors College and the University Fellows Experience include an ACT score of 32 or higher or SAT score of 1400 (verbal and quantitative) or higher, and a high school grade-point average of 3.8 or higher. Semifinalists underwent a phone interview and finalists were invited for on-campus interviews. The selection committee also considered academic honors, extracurricular and service activities, and leadership achievements in making their final selections.
