KETK reports several agencies were involved in the arrest of Judy Jackson Dalton, 65, of Canton, on Tuesday. She was taken into custody by the Van Zandt County Fire Marshal, the Canton Police Department, and agents from ATF at her home on Slaughter Street at around 3:30 p.m. Authorities believe Dalton is responsible for a fire on the night of May 2 in the 300 block of Slaughter Street. Two people were inside the home when the blaze was set.

Authorities say a citizen who was watching one of the houses that had been burned previously saw suspicious activity and then saw a glow coming from a home. The citizen ran down the street, grabbed a water hose, put out the fire, and woke up the people inside.

Dalton’s bond was set at $250,000. The investigation into the other fires on Slaughter Street is continuing. Officials believe others may be involved in this rash of fires. Anyone with information about any of the fires on Slaughter Street is urged to contact the County Fire Marshal at (903)567-6026 or Canton Police Department at (903)567-4991. Crimestoppers offers a reward up to $1,000 for information leading the arrest of the individual or individuals responsible for these fires. ATF has added an additional $5,000 reward, bringing the total reward to $6,000.
