Posted/updated on: May 24, 2015 at 4:12 pmPALESTINE – The Palestine Police Department is stepping into the picture following the devastating EF-3 tornado that ripped through Van May 10, with Van residents still needing help in their recuperation efforts. The Palestine PD is assisting those efforts and asking for the public’s assistance through Operation Hope for Van.
The Van community is still in dire need of supplies such as:
o $5 to $25 gift cards- especially from Walmart, Dollar General, and Brookshires
o Gatorade
o Toiletries – travel size toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, hand sanitizer, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, lotion, etc.
o Feminine hygiene products
o Baby supplies – diapers, wipes, baby shampoo, baby lotions, etc.
o Cleaning Supplies
o Dog and Cat food
The Palestine Police Department’s dispatchers came up with the idea and are the ones who are organizing the effort. Palestine Police Chief Mike Alexander stated, “As a law enforcement administrator, I understand order and chaos, whether created by man or nature. The Palestine Police Department is willing to assist the Van community by providing some of the resources needed, be it supplies or labor.”
