thWASHINGTON, D.C. – The Tyler Economic Development Council has once again been recognized by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) as an accredited economic development organization (AEDO). TEDC is one of 43 groups to hold the accreditation. Originally accredited in February 1999, the organization was reaccredited by IEDC In 2002, 2005, 2008, and 2011. Following three more successful years of activity, TEDC has once again achieved reaccreditation through May 2018, which will result in 19 consecutive years of accreditation. β€œThe Tyler Economic Development Council displays the professionalism, commitment, and technical expertise that is deserving of this honor,” said IEDC President and CEO Jeff Finkle.

According to a TEDC news release, the AEDO program is a comprehensive peer review process that measures economic development organizations against commonly held standards in the profession. The program consists of two phases: documentation review and an onsite visit. Each phase is designed to evaluate information about the structure, organization, funding, program, and staff of the candidate economic development organization. According to the news release, earning the AEDO accreditation tells the community and prospects that TEDC has attained a measure of excellence assuring that their trust is well placed and their business is in good hands.

TEDC, under the longtime leadership of President/CEO Tom Mullins, was the first economic development group to be recognized as an AEDO in the state. Texas currently has nine accredited programs: Centerpoint Energy – Houston, Conroe, Denton, Greater Houston, Hutto, Laredo, Richardson, Temple, and Tyler.
