KETK and the Longview News-Journal report Michael Jesse Najera, 36, of Escondido, Calif., is being held in Gregg County Jail on more than $1 million bond. He faces an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge in addition to other charges stemming from the second attack.

Najera was arrested about 3 a.m. Tuesday by Longview police following the reported incident of road rage in which he was involved in a hit-and-run wreck shortly after 10 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Rex Lane and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Najera reportedly threatened to kill the driver of the other vehicle after the wreck before fleeing the scene. Later that night, officers found Najera, and while they tried to arrest him, Najera allegedly punched an officer and tried to flee. An officer then used a stun gun on Najera and was able to arrest him, police said. Najera also hit several parked cars in the 700 block of Swancy Street, an arrest report said.

Once Najera was in jail, police reviewing video footage of the Monday afternoon assault on the bus driver were able to identify Najera as the suspect and obtain an arrest warrant which was served to Najera while in jail. Najera faces a charge of aggravated assault of a public servant for the assault on the bus driver. The driver, Todd Kelley, remains hospitalized with injuries to his cheek, jaw and mouth, after Najera reportedly hit him twice in the face with an object. Cody Kelley, Todd’s son, said the family is relieved to hear of Najera’s arrest.

Najera also faces charges of assault of a public servant for hitting the police officer during his arrest and four counts of accident involving damage to a vehicle less than $200. He’s also charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
