Tyler ISD To Honor Top Graduates, Influential Educators

TISD logo3TYLER — The top performing students of the Tyler Independent School District and 35 influential TISD educators will step into the spotlight tonight during the Tyler ISD Foundation’s A Night of Shining Stars. The academic excellence recognition event will be held at 6:00pm at the Ornelas Activity Center in Tyler. The TISD Foundation, in cooperation with the Tyler ISD, will host the eighth annual A Night of Shining Stars to honor the top 20 graduating seniors of the class of 2015 from John Tyler High School and Robert E. Lee High School. The top 20 students will be honored as Shining Stars. Each student selected one Tyler ISD educator who they felt made the biggest and most positive impact in their educational careers to be recognized alongside them as a Distinguished Educator.

The 2015 Shining Stars from John Tyler High School are: LaKecia Beasely, La’Randall Carter, Carneisha Daniels, KayDeijah Durham, Karina Fonseca, Gabriela Gaona, Savannah Hudson, Ubaldo Martinez, Thelmy Mijares, Ashton Mobley, Breana Mobley, Gabriella Morales Alvarez, Alecia Nelson, Itaii Osorio, Justin Session, Kensasha Smith, Ariel Taylor, Amia Wickware, Maria Zavala and Lizeth Zavala.

The 2015 Shining Stars from Robert E. Lee High School are: Megan Abrameit, Abbey Adkins, William Arnold, Joshua Bice, Trevor Carr, Kali Dodez, Ethan Elkins, Yadiel Graciano, Shivani Jariwala, Lauren Lewis, Claudia McCown, Huyen Nguyen, Ashley Orr, Brandon Overmeyer, Cristina Sanchez, Joseph Spellman, Joshua Stapp, Emily Starr, John Vincent and Melanie Webb.

Students selected the following Tyler ISD educators as those who have been the most influential in their lives: Amy Clemens, Melinda Tefteller, Peggy Leonard, Sandra Taylor, Allison Rogers, Randy Barnes, Misti Rasure, Frankie Granberry, Jane Neal, Alva Alford, Kathy Haley, MSG Steven Johnson, April Caldwell, Brad Langley, Sabra Godair, Cindy Robinson, Matthew Franks, Pamela Rodriguez, Vivian Walker, Michelle Watson, Cathy Chavez, James Garland, Link Worthen, Charles Sizemore, Louis Stephens, Amy Norris, Leah Burke, Jennifer Perry, Kala Morrow, Aretha Williams, Noni Smith, Keith Showen, Mike Smith, Juanita Maxwell and Ingrid Smith.

Former Shining Star student Ashley Jones will deliver remarks during the event. Jones is a 2010 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and is currently a student at Southern Methodist University in the Dedman School of Law. KTBB Sports Director Bill Coates will serve as master of ceremonies. Coates is a former director of the Tyler ISD Foundation.
