Authorities: Henderson Co. Man Caught with Stolen Car

ATHENS — A Payne Springs man was taken into custody on Wednesday for multiple charges, including driving a stolen vehicle out of Tennessee. KETK reports authorities arrested Shawn Dyvene Smith, 27, following a traffic stop for no brake lights. During this time, the Payne Springs Police Department learned the car’s license plate is registered as stolen out of Maryville, Tennessee. The suspect was also wanted on five local warrants. Smith was arrested and booked into the Henderson County Jail. He is charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and five outstanding warrants. He was released Thursday on $9,166 bond.
