FAAQUITMAN — The pilot of a home-built airplane has been injured when the craft crashed in Wood County. The pilot, Benjamin Kunziker, 64, has been airlifted to Tyler’s East Texas medical Center, where he is said to be in stable condition. State trooper Jean dark says the plane crashed southeast of Quitman, near County Road 3230 around 10:30 Tuesday morning. Preliminary information is that Kunziker was attempting to land on a private landing strip. The plane lost altitude due to decreasing winds, causing the wheels to clip the top of a group of trees. The aircraft landed nose first on the ground. The FAA has been notified and will continue the investigation.
