thTYLER — Tyler city officials have scheduled an open house at which residents may provide input toward the Old Jacksonville Highway (FM 2493) Corridor Study. The open house will be held Thursday, June 18, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Lane’s Chapel United Methodist Church, located at 8720 Old Jacksonville Hwy. in Tyler. The portion of road being studied is bounded by Loop 323 in Tyler and Highway 69 in Bullard. According to a news release, the study will analyze the current conditions of traffic, travel lanes, and signals and make recommendations for upgrades as the corridor grows.

Officials say this is an informal, come-and-go event to give the public an opportunity to provide input on current issues and share any concerns about continued growth along the corridor. Participants will be given a questionnaire to complete, which will help guide the recommended improvements, according to the news release. Staff members will be on hand to answer questions. Comment cards will be dispersed throughout the room for stakeholders to provide written feedback.

“Our consultants have collected traffic data, but that is not the whole story,” said Principal Planner and Metropolitan Planning Organization Coordinator Michael Howell. “This open house will give citizens who travel the corridor an opportunity to voice their experiences and provide valuable insight during the planning process. This information will help guide the recommended improvements.” Citizens may also contact the MPO at http://www.TylerAreaMPO.org to comment on the project plan.

The event is hosted by the Tyler Area MPO. Refreshments will be provided. For more information about the Old Jacksonville Highway (FM 2493) Corridor Study, call (903) 531-1175 or use the above link to the MPO website. Se habla español.
