Tyler Appeals Court Clerk Retiring

12th Court of AppealsTYLER — The Clerk of the 12th Court of Appeals in Tyler, Cathy Lusk, has announced her retirement. After 20 years in the post, Lusk is stepping down August 31st. She said the decision was not made lightly. Lusk is a member of both the Appellate Court Clerks of the State of Texas and the National Conference of Appellate Court Clerks. She has served on numerous committees in both organizations. Lusk joins her husband, Mike, a former major in the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, in retirement.

Lusk began her career of public service with Smith County in 1981. She served as court coordinator for Smith County’s four district judges.

In 1984, when her family moved to Houston, Lusk first worked in the Harris County Clerk’s Office. Following a short stint there, she worked at the First Court of Appeals in Houston. There, she eventually became a special assistant to the court’s chief justice.

When she returned to Smith County with her family in 1988, Lusk went to work for the 12th Court of Appeals in the dual roles of deputy clerk and legal assistant. In 1995, she was named as clerk of the court by then Chief Justice Tom Ramey.
