TxDOT logoTYLER — Here’s a look at work planned in the district during the Week of July 6. These schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment failure or other unforeseen issues.

District-wide Seal Coat Operations have been ongoing in Van Zandt County the last couple of weeks with the contractor finishing up Farm Road 2475 before postponing work for a short period of time. Seal coat is the department’s preventative maintenance program designed to help roads last longer and require less maintenance. Striping operations continue on those roadways that have been sealed over the last few weeks in Henderson, Anderson and Cherokee counties. Expect lane closures.

SMITH COUNTY – Tyler crews will resume overlay work on Farm Road 2015 between Farm Road 16 and Farm Road 14. A second crew plans to return to State Highway 135 between Troup and Arp to conduct maintenance work. Expect both locations to be reduced to one lane and traffic controlled by flaggers.

TxDOT contractor, Striping Technology, Inc., will have a crew in Smith County the Week of June 15 as part of the district-wide safety project to add centerline rumble strips on Farm Road 2661. Expect lane closures.

Smith County construction projects update:
Loop 323 Widening
*Limits: Tyler’s West Loop and SH 31
*Contractor: Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd., of Longview
*Cost: $12 million
This widening and bridge replacement project is in full swing with the contractor currently working on the retaining wall on both sides of the roadway. No lane closures are planned but motorists should use caution when traveling through this active work zone. The project includes widening Loop 323 from State Highway 31 to Shaw Street. The speed limit on Loop 323 in the work zone has been reduced to 45 mph from State Highway 64 to Shaw Street. The completion date is early 2016.

State Highway 31East Widening Project
*Limits: From FM 757 to FM 2012
*Contractor: Reynolds & Kay, LTD
*Cost: $7.8 million
Culvert and embankment work in the eastbound lanes is ongoing on this project to add passing lanes for multiple sections of roadway in both the eastbound and westbound directions. Once the widening is complete, a seal coat and final surface will be applied. Motorists should expect delays and shoulder closures as wells as a daily construction speed limit of 60 mph when work is being performed on this 18-month job.

State Highway 31East Widening Project
*Limits: From FM 850 to FM 757
*Contractor: East Texas Bridge, Inc.
*Cost: $3.4 million
This portion of SH 31E from FM 850 east of Tyler to FM 757 is being widened to add passing lanes for multiple sections of the roadway in both directions. The new passing lanes are now open to traffic. The contractor is performing final work and inspections. Expect lane delays. The project wraps up in July.

Off-System Bridge Replacement Project
*Limits: County Road (CR) 46 at Prairie Creek Tributary
*Contractor: East Texas Bridge, Inc.
*Cost: $490,000
CR 46 remains closed while the outdated bridge is replaced. Hot mix base for the bridge approaches has been laid and a final surface expected to be placed next week. Motorists must use alternate routes to reach their destinations. The work is expected to be completed and the roadway opened to traffic in early July.

Off-System Bridge Replacement Project
*Limits: County Roads (CR) 452 and 481
*Contractor: Pierce Construction
*Cost: $560,000
Both roads are closed to through traffic with the contractor preparing to place beams soon. Motorists must use alternate routes to reach their destinations. The work is expected to be completed and the roads opened to traffic in October 2015.

State Highway 64
*Limits: from Chapel Hill to Arp
*Contractor: Drewery Construction of Nacogdoches
*Cost: $3.9 million
Work on the passing lanes between FM 2607 and Arp is underway. TxDOT reminds motorists to use extra caution and to watch for flaggers and a pilot car providing traffic control through this work zone. The Super 2 widening project continues and consists of clearing and grading. Current work includes cement treating subgrade and placing flex base for the passing lanes. The daily speed zone reduction is posted at 60 mph when workers are present. Expect delays. Traffic control is conducted by flaggers and a pilot car.

Farm Road 850 Resurfacing Project
*Limits: 0.445 miles southeast of FM 2607 to the Rusk County line in Overton
*Contractor: Drewery Construction of Nacogdoches
*Cost: $2.1 million
Seal coat operations are winding down with the contractor planning to place a hot mix surface on the entire project starting in a couple of weeks. The project consists of resurfacing the roadway by placing an overlay from FM 2607 to SH 135 in Overton. Flaggers and a pilot car are providing traffic control. Expect lane closures and delays.

GREGG COUNTY – Longview Maintenance crews will return to U.S. Highway 259North between Spur 502 and the Upshur County line to continue mill and inlay work. Expect lane closures as this work continues for the next few weeks.

Gregg County construction projects update:
Spur 63 (McCann Road) at Guthrie Creek
*Limits: approximately 0.1 mile north and south of Guthrie Creek
*Contractor: Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd., of Longview
*Cost: $435,000
This is an emergency repair contract for restoring and stabilizing the box culvert and its wing walls at Guthrie Creek. There will be lane closures daily after 9 a.m. The work should take about two months to complete.

Interstate Highway20 Total Maintenance Contract
*Limits: Gregg, Smith and Van Zandt counties
*Contractor: Fireman Excavating
A subcontractor is performing full depth concrete repairs in the westbound lanes of I-20 in Smith County. A second subcontractor will continue mill and inlay operations in the westbound lanes of I-20 in Gregg County. The work will impact all travel lanes but only one lane at a time. Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use other routes to reach their destinations when possible.

State Highway 31 Landscape Project
*Limits: 0.3 miles north of FM 2205 (Grace Creek) to 0.2 miles south of U.S. 80 (Cotton) in Longview
*Contractor: South Texas Illuminations, LLC
*Cost: $281,249.70
Work is under way but should not impact traffic. The project comes as a result of the city winning one of 10 Governor’s Community Achievement Awards presented by Keep Texas Beautiful through its partnership with TxDOT, which allocates $2,000,000 a year as landscape incentives to competing communities based on population. Landscape incentives are given for outstanding work in areas of litter prevention and cleanup, public awareness, beautification and property improvement, solid waste management, illegal dumping and enforcement and education.

Farm Road 2275 George Richey Extension (Segments II & III)
*Limits: McCann Road to U.S. 259
*Contractor: East Texas Bridge, Inc.
*Cost: $12.8 million
The contractor continues clearing between Judson and Airline roads. Excavation, embankment, bridge construction, subgrade treatment, storm drain and other work is ongoing between McCann and Judson roads. Paving operations are underway. This new location construction is not expected to impact traffic.

Loop 281 at Farm Road 2087 Overpass
*Limits: SH 31 to approximately one mile south of SH 31
*Contractor: Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd., of Longview.
*Cost: $13.2 million
This project is in Phase III of construction with traffic moved off the existing loop onto the detours. The contractor is preparing to pour the second half of the bridge deck as construction of the temporary earth retaining wall continues. Expect some delays during the peak evening hours. Caution advised!

SH 42
*Limits: From SH 31 north to I-20
*Contractor: Reynolds & Kay, Ltd.
*Cost: $3.7 million
Construction has resumed after being slowed and postponed due to weather conditions, design aspects, and construction related issues. Drivers can expect minimal impacts during the day but the majority of the work will be conducted at night. The project should be completed in early fall. Motorists are reminded to use caution in this and all work zones.

I-20 Dynamic Message Signs (DMS)
*Locations
*East of FM 1255 westbound – Van Zandt County
*West of FM 849 eastbound – Smith County
*Derrick Park westbound – Smith County
*Contractor: Highway Intelligent Traffic Solutions Corp.
Final testing of these signs continues. There is little impact to traffic as this project nears completion.

ANDERSON COUNTY – Palestine Maintenance, assisted by the Special Jobs Crew, plan to spend the week finishing up seal coat operations on Farm Road 1137 between U.S. Highway 84 and the End of State Maintenance, and on Farm Road 2022 between State Highway 294 and the Anderson County line. Expect minor delays due to lane closures.

Anderson County construction projects update:
Off-System Bridge Replacement Project
*Limits: County Road (CR) 453 at Beaver Creek
*Contractor: Highway 19 Construction of Sulphur Springs, Texas
*Cost: $256,312.87
CR 453 remains closed at Beaver Creek as a new bridge is built. Motorists must use alternate routes to reach their destinations. This project will be completed this month.

Off-System Bridge Replacement Project
*Limits: County Road (CR) 471 at Box Creek
*Contractor: Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd., of Longview
*Cost: $817,412.15
CR 471 at Box Creek is closed to through traffic while a new bridge is constructed. The project is expected to be completed in August 2015.

CHEROKEE COUNTY – Crews in Jacksonville and Rusk join forces this week to place an overlay on Farm Road 13 between Troup and Price. The roadway will be down to one lane with flaggers providing traffic control.

HENDERSON COUNTY – Athens Maintenance will be leveling up and placing an overlay on State Highway 274 between the Kaufman County line and State Highway 334 in the Seven Points area. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.

TxDOT contractor, Striping Technology, Inc., will have a crew in Henderson County as part of the district-wide safety project to add centerline rumble strips on Farm Road 2709 the Week of June 15. Expect lane closures.

Henderson County construction projects update:
U.S. Highway 175 Widening Project
*Limits: 0.1 miles southeast of FM 804 near Baxter southeast to 1.1 miles east of Loop 60E at Larue
*Contractor: A.L. Helmcamp, Inc. and Big Creek Construction
*Cost: $39.2 million
The project will expand U.S. 175 from two lanes to a four-lane divided roadway with a depressed median. Construction of this Phase I project started April 6, 2015 and should be completed in November 2018.

Farm Road 317 Widening Project
*Limits: From FM 314 to FM 607
*Contractor: Big Creek Construction, Ltd., of Waco
Big Creek Construction is conducting ditch work and preparing to seal the roadway next week. The project is widening FM 317 from FM 314 to FM 607. Expect lane closures.

Off-System Bridge Replacement Project
*Limits: Cardinal Drive at Little Duncan Creek in Murchison
*Contractor: Hartbeat Construction of Tyler
*Cost: $314,919.44
Cardinal Drive is closed to through traffic while a new bridge is constructed. The project is expected to be completed in August 2015.

RUSK COUNTY – Henderson Maintenance will be conducting mill and inlay operations on U.S. Highway 259 from U.S. Highway 84 to the Nacogdoches County line. Work will be done in both the northbound and southbound lanes. Expect lane closures.

Rusk County construction project updates:
State Highway 64 Widening Project
*Limits: 0.173 miles west of BU 64E (N. Marshall St.) east to 0.2 miles west of U.S. 79 (Traffic Star)
*Contractor: Lonestar Equipment Company, Inc.
*Cost: $2.1 million
Motorists should expect periodic delays on this SH 64 construction project in Henderson as the contractor works to widen the roadway. Construction of the retaining wall continues. The traffic signal at North Marshall Street has been removed and Stop Signs installed. The signal at Mill St. will remain but will be upgraded. This project started in August 2013 and consists of widening the existing two-lane roadway and constructing a four-lane facility along with a continuous Left Turn Lane with the majority of work being performed outside the existing travel lanes. It is expected to be completed in late summer 2015.

U.S. Highway 84 Resurfacing Project
*Limits: From 2.3 miles west of FM 3055 east to 0.24 miles west of U.S. 259 in Mt. Enterprise
*Contractor: Drewery Construction
*Cost: $1.07 million
This contractor has placed the new overlay surface and final striping on this project. Motorists can expect delays during daytime hours as traffic control includes reducing the roadway to one lane. Slow down and be prepared to stop in this work zone.

VAN ZANDT COUNTY – Canton Maintenance plans to continue base and edge repairs, overlay work, and other maintenance on Farm Road 316 from Farm Road 1861 to State Highway 198. Expect lane closures.

TxDOT contractor, Striping Technology, Inc., will have a crew in Van Zandt County the Week of June 22 as part of the district-wide safety project to add centerline rumble strips on Farm Road 2909 and Farm Road 1255. Expect lane closures.

Van Zandt County construction projects update:
State Highway 64 Widening Project
*Limits: From FM 858 near Ben Wheeler to FM 314
*Contractor: A.L. Helmcamp, Inc., of Buffalo
*Cost: $7.4 million
Work started in December 2012 on this widening project to add shoulders and passing lanes at this location. The project is expected to be completed in August 2015 but construction has been delayed due to excessive rain in the spring.

Off-System Bridge Replacement Projects
*Locations:
*County Road (CR) 2702 at Lacy Fork Tributary
*County Road (CR) 2129 at Flat Creek
*Contractor: Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd., of Longview
*Cost: $1.02 million
Both roads are open to the public as the contractor conducts final oversight activities.

State Highway 198 Widening Project
*Limits: from SH 243 in Canton southwest to 0.4 miles northeast of Farm Road 316 near Phalba
*Contractor: Big Creek Construction, Ltd., of Waco
*Cost: $5 million
There is currently no work occurring on this widening project. No lane closures.

Farm Road 314 Widening Project
*Limits: from I-20 to the Van Zandt/Henderson County line
*Contractor: A.L. Helmcamp, Inc., of Buffalo
*Cost: $11.9 million
The contractor is conducting work on the slopes south of Edom. Work to rebuild the roadway from Edom to the Henderson County line is underway. Expect lane closures.

I-20 Project
*Limits: From 1.6 miles east of FM 16 to 2.9 miles east of FM 314
*Contractor: APAC-Texas, Inc.
*Cost: $2.4 million
The contractor expects to lay hot mix on the eastbound lanes of this I-20 resurfacing project. Expect daily lane closures. Due to traffic impacts no work is planned for Friday’s.

WOOD COUNTY – Crews in Mineola will be performing base repairs, and placing a hot mix overlay on Farm Road 14 north of Farm Road 2869. Overlay applications on Farm Road 49 between Farm Road 14 and the Wood/Upshur county line are also expected to resume. Base repair work is scheduled on Loop 564 and FM 3530. Expect lane closures at each of these locations.

Meanwhile, the Special Jobs Crew expects to be in Downtown Winnsboro on Thursday, July 9, to conduct mill and inlay work on State Highway 37 north and south of State Highway 11 as well as on SH 11 east and west of SH 37. This work will impact parking.

Wood County construction project update:
State Highway 37 Roadway Repair
*Limits: from FM 2088 in Quitman to 0.4 miles south of FM 515 in Winnsboro
*Contractor: Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd., of Longview
*Cost: $7.7 million
The contractor is conducting shoulder and drainage maintenance on this job. Paving to place the final surface is expected to start soon. Expect lane closures.
