Superintendent Don Dunn says neighboring districts and businesses have been pitching in and supplies, especially for the teachers, have been donated from across the state. Tyler ISD have provided 26 portable buildings at a charge of $1 each per year. Dunn says the district’s insurance company is set to cover at least part of the rebuilding The school board will be looking at putting a bond package together.

Two people were killed and more than 40 hurt when a tornado slammed Van on May 10. The twister heavily damaged the community’s elementary and intermediate schools, along with an administrative building. Backpacks with school supplies were donated by the Kids In Need Foundation. The items were presented during a back-to-school celebration. A Tyler publishing company, Mentoring Minds, last week donated more than 1,000 reading and math books to the Van ISD.
