TYLER — The University of Texas at Tyler and Sam Houston State University have entered an engineering partnership. Officials with both schools say it will offer an effective pathway for students at Sam Houston to earn a four-year degree in selected fields of engineering. According to a UTT news release, the pact creates a seamless transition from lower-level coursework to completion of baccalaureate degrees in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering.
Participating students will begin their engineering study at Sam Houston in Huntsville, and they will then complete their study at UT Tyler – through course offerings either at the main campus in Tyler or the UT Tyler Houston Engineering Center. Officials cite what they term “a critical need…for well-trained engineers” both locally and nationally. They also point to the collaboration as a good way to reduce educational costs and increase access to engineering studies.
