HANEY_1443557064948_5001880_ver1.0CHEROKEE COUNTY — An arrest affidavit has shed more light on what led to a fatal shooting earlier this week in Cherokee County. On Monday, September 28, Tony Scott Brazier, 47, was found dead at his home in the 4000 block of Farm to Market Road 235. KETK has obtained an arrest affidavit detailing what events led up to the fatal shot.

A witness, 20-year-old Dakota Ray Aarant, gave his account of the shooting to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. Aarant stated he was at the Brazier’s home with Christy Whitehead, Todd Lewis and Doy Allen Haney, Jr., who is accused of killing the victim.

Brazier had left the home on FM 235 to run errands. When he returned, Brazier paid Haney money owed to him and told him to leave the property. Haney and Aarant then went outside and stuck around to talk to each other.

According to the affidavit, when Brazier stepped outside to feed the cows, Haney was still on his land. The victim went and grabbed a pistol from his truck and warned Haney to leave. An argument ensued and Brazier fired a shot into the ground near the front door.

The men continued to argue and Brazier fired another shot into the ground. He then went inside the house.

While inside the home, Haney hopped in the right rear passenger seat of the vehicle, and they slowly backed away from the house, then rolled forward as if to leave. When Brazier came back out of the house, shouting began again and Brazier walked toward the vehicle and told them to leave immediately.

Aarant stated he heard Haney say something like, “You’re lucky I don’t shoot you,” “You’re lucky I don’t blow your head off.” A gunshot was then heard and Brazier fell to the ground as the vehicle sped off.

Brazier got off the ground and ran past Aarant. The victim said he had been shot and that Haney had shot him in the chest. He then collapsed on the living room floor where he was pronounced dead.

The alleged shooter was taken into custody on Tuesday morning at the Hampton Inn on Troup Highway in tyler. Haney is charged with murder.
