Former Firefighter Sentenced for Sexual Assault of a Child
Posted/updated on: October 18, 2015 at 3:00 pmGILMER — A former Gilmer volunteer firefighter has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of aggravated sexual assault of a child. According to the Longview News-Journal, an Upshur County jury returned a guilty verdict Thursday against Christopher Alan Ray, 39. Ray had been accused of sexually assaulting the child in 2010 when the child was 8 and he was 34. The child finally told authorities about the incident at age 14 after attempting to commit suicide. In addition to the 25-year prison sentence, Ray also must register as a sex offender. He must serve at least half of the prison sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
