CAM'RON MATTHEWS PIC_1445183073254_5220323_ver1.0ALTO (Staff/AP) – Alto school officials say funeral services for Cam’ron Matthews, an Alto football player who died over the weekend, will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the Rusk High School Gym (Eagle Coliseum). KETK reports a GoFundMe page has been set up to help Matthews’ family with expenses. Donations are also being accepted at Bancorp South Bank under the “Cam’Ron Matthews Memorial Fund.” You can also deliver them to Alto ISD.

An aneurysm is blamed for the death of Matthews, who collapsed on the sidelines during a Friday night home game against Price-Carlisle and died the following day. The rest of the game was called off. Alto School Superintendent Kerry Birdwell tells KTRE-TV in Lufkin that the school’s athletic director was with Matthews’ family when a doctor informed them of Matthews’ diagnosis. Birdwell says the doctor told the family the aneurysm may not be football-related. An aneurysm is a blood-filled bulge or balloon in a blood vessel wall that can rupture.
