Hallsville Man Sentenced for Attempting to Take Cop’s Firearm

wileyMARSHALL — A Hallsville man who attempted to take a weapon from a police officer will spend 10 months in jail. According to the Longview News-Journal, Garland Ray Wiley Jr., 32, pleaded guilty to the felony. According to his indictment, Wiley took Hallsville officer Nelson Valle’s firearm on Jan. 16. Documents show officers Jeff Jones and Valle were dispatched that morning to the 400 block of McPherson Street in reference to a disorderly person. When officers stopped Wiley’s vehicle, Wiley appeared disoriented and acted in an aggressive manner. Officers said after Wiley threatened to harm them, they used a stun gun to take Wiley to the ground.
