Subject of Smith County Manhunt Arrested

manhuntSMITH COUNTY — The subject of a Smith County manhunt has been taken into custody. Officials said Allan Ray Burson, 49, Harleton, was booked into the Smith County Jail. He was wanted on an outstanding armed robbery warrant out of Harrison County. His new charges include evading arrest. According to Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith, around 9:45 Monday night, deputies conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of State Highway 271 and FM Road 2015 in northeast Smith County. Burson gave the deputy his license, then sped off, igniting a chase. A short time later, Burson abandoned his truck, he fled on foot into a wooded area. Additional units were called in, including Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers, a unit from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden, along with a DPS helicopter. At 2:40 Tuesday morning, TDC canines tracked Burson to the I-20 service road near its intersection with FM 2015 where he was taken into custody.
