aogar1SMITH COUNTY — Law enforcement from across Texas were in attendance Saturday for the funeral service for K9 Officer Ogar. The service was conducted with full police honors. Ogar was the partner of Precinct 5 Constable Kenneth Bibby. “Dogs are different,” says Bibby. “K9s are human trained to have that special bond, that protector that we need, and I hope that the public sees the different perspective of about a K9.” According to KETK, Ogar’s service included prayers from Rev. Doug Hannig and Pastor Tom Huck. As well as remarks from Smith County law enforcement and wife of Ogar’s handler Laura Petty.

The service took place just hours after news broke that Michael Paul Koch, the man accused of fatally shooting Ogar, had been apprehended. “We teamed up with Dallas police department and Garland police department and ultimately located Mr. Koch and took him into custody again at 3:30 am this morning.” says Sheriff Larry Smith.

But Saturday’s service focused on Ogar and the legacy he leaves. “Ogar was instrumental in at least 40-something drug arrests, which along with that came the forfeiture of property and assets that was used,” says Bibby. The ceremony ended with a processional of Ogar’s family as they said their goodbyes.

Constable Bibby says the support from the community has been there from the start. “It’s a tough situation, but it’s always great to work in a community such as Smith County and Texas in the state of Texas where law enforcement is appreciated.” says Bibby. “It means a lot for the public to support your law enforcement, and that is what is here today.” says Smith.
