Brenda KaysKILGORE – A new president begins work at Kilgore College on Monday. Dr. Brenda Kays, who began as a community college educator in Texas 30 years ago, succeeds Bill Holda, who had been president since July 2, 1992, and who retired on Friday. She was selected for the post over three dozen applicants for the position. Dr. Kays started work at Kilgore College on January 13th and she prepared for the transition to the president’s chair.

Dr. Kays says she starts her new duties with three broad goals. First, she wants to continue having an emphasis on students’ success at Kilgore College. Secondly, she is looking forward to getting to know the students, faculty and staff of Kilgore College as well as the communities its serves. And she wants to continue gathering the resources that the college needs to accomplish the mission.

Dr. Kays is a former Vice President of Student Learning and Success at Guilford Technical Community College North Carolina and former Chief Academic Officer and Dean of Instructional Services at Vernon College in Texas. She earned a Master of Education in counseling from Midwestern State University and a Doctorate of Education from the University of North Texas in Denton.
