police-longview-shieldLONGVIEW — Heavy rainfall has created flash flooding in various areas across Longview and the East Texas area. With additional rainfall expected throughout the week, residents are encouraged to take precaution and avoid driving into flooded roadways, according to Longview police. They’re thanking personnel from Longview Police, Fire, and Public Works who have been responding throughout the community. During the morning of March 9, Longview Fire Department responded to 25 water rescues as well as a fallen tree rescue in the Longview / Gregg County area.

To report an emergency situation, please contact 911. However, please do not call 911 simply to report a flooded roadway.

The American Red Cross has established an emergency shelter at Longview Christian Fellowship located at 2011 W. Marshall Ave. Please contact the American Red Cross at 903-753-2091 for more information about the emergency shelter.

Flood Safety Tips:
• Don’t drive into flooded areas. Turn around, don’t drown.
• Observe all warning signs.
• Do not go around emergency vehicles or barricades that are blocking flooded roadways. The water is too deep for vehicles.
• Stay away from downed power lines.
• When there is a danger of flood, make sure radios, flashlights, batteries, cell phones, or other battery powered devices are fully charged and can be protected from water if necessary.

Road Closure List:

Follow the link below for a list of some problem areas that have experienced flooding and may be temporarily closed. The list is representative and may not include all problem or flooded areas.
