thTYLER – The East Texas Food Bank this week launched its “More Space. More Meals.” expansion campaign. Executive Director Dennis Cullinane says the effort includes the construction of a new Volunteer and Nutrition Education Center, expanding the Cold Dock area of the warehouse, and renovating some of the existing warehouse areas. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2017.

Cullinane points out that the food bank continues to see an increasing demand for food by its clients. Approximately 473,000 people in East Texas are at risk of hunger today, according to the American Communities Survey. Cullinane says the food bank has made great strides in fighting hunger but there’s still much work to be done. According to Cullinane, the move follows conduction of a comprehensive strategic plan by his agency.
