Sheriff Nutt’s Resignation Accepted
Posted/updated on: May 11, 2016 at 2:14 pmATHENS — Henderson County Commissioners have reluctantly accepted the resignation of Sheriff Ray Nutt. His term was scheduled to end at the end of the year. But the sheriff decided to resign at the end of this month. Nutt, who has been sheriff since 2009, said he is stepping down to spend more time with his wife, children and grandchildren. The commissioners then named Sheriff-elect Botie Hillhouse to take his place. Hillhouse will serve the remainder of Nutt’s unexpired term. Hillhouse won the March Republican primary election for sheriff. He has no Democratic opposition in November.
