adult_on_leafHARRISON COUNTY — The bug that changed Major League Baseball has been found in East Texas. The Texas A&M Forest Service trapped four adult emerald ash borer beetles in Harrison County just south of Karnack. Although the ash trees in the immediate vicinity of the trap did not exhibit symptoms of the pest, efforts are underway to identify any infested trees. Before the emerald ash borer was discovered in michigan in 2002 baseball bats were made of ash. After millions of ash trees were destroyed, manufacturerers were forced to switch to maple.
