Teen Dead, Four Injured in Upshur County Wreck

HALEY JOHNSON_1465096395473_8859135_ver1.0UPSHUR COUNTY — 19-year-old Haley Johnson (pictured) of Big Sandy has died in a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 154, six miles west of Gilmer. The accident also injured four others, at least one critically. According to DPS Trooper Jean Dark, preliminary investigation revealed that a Kia Soul was traveling west and a Chevrolet 1500 was traveling east in the westbound lane Friday night. The driver of the Kia veered left to avoid a collision, at which time the Chevrolet veered right, and the vehicles struck.

The driver of the Kia was Bailee Russell, 17, of Holly Lake Ranch. Russell was last reported in critical condition at Good Shepherd Medical Center. Haley Johnson, who was a passenger in the Kia, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger in the vehicle, Cameron Johnson, 17, of Big Sandy, was taken to Longview Regional Hospital. Yet another passenger, Alecia Allen, 17, of Gilmer, was taken to Good Shepherd. The driver of the Chevrolet, Robert Frazier, 23, of Gilmer, was taken to Longview Regional. Information on their conditions wasn’t immediately available, and there was no word on possible charges.
