East Texas Food Bank2TYLER — With summer coming, it’s just about time for the The East Texas Food Bank’s Summer Food Program. The kickoff is Tuesday at 11:45am at City Park, 200 West Queen Street in Tyler. The program provides free nutritious meals to children at over 60 sites throughout East Texas. Fifteen of the sites are in Tyler. The food bank’s Karolyn Davis said ” kids should not miss out on the fun and excitement of summer vacation, nor should they miss any of the meals provided by the national school breakfast and lunch programs.

The program provides nutritious meals free to all children ages 1 to 18 at the participating sites. Meals and snacks are also available to persons with disabilities, over age 18, who participate in school programs for people who are mentally or physically disabled. To participate, children just need to show up. There is no need to register and no proof of age or income is required. It is expected that around 150,000 meals will be served at the sites this summer.

The various sites will remain open through mid August. You can go to http://www.easttexasfoodbank.org/Programs/SummerFood and find the times and serving location near you.
