poundsfield-tyler-1TYLER – As of Tuesday, people flying out of Tyler Pounds Regional Airport are seeing an expedited screening program. The Transportation Security Administration recently announced the start of TSA Pre✓. This allows select flyers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and keep 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels in a carry-on bag. The Tyler airport becomes one of more than 160 airports in the country where passengers can experience expedited screening.

According to a TSA news release, to apply, U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents may pre-enroll online at http://www.tsa.gov and must visit an application center to provide biographic information, which includes a government issued ID showing current address. You must be fingerprinted, and provide a U.S. passport, U.S. birth certificate or valid immigration documentation, as well as pay an application fee of $85 for a five-year membership.

Once approved, passengers will receive a known traveler number (KTN) and will have the opportunity to use TSA Pre✓ lanes at security checkpoints at participating airports and on 16 major airlines. They include Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways and Virgin America.
