Texas Education Agency3AUSTIN – The Texas Commissioner of Education has announced that 578 school systems across Texas will be awarded more than $116 million in grants. It’s part of Governor Greg Abbott’s pre-kindergarten initiative. Last year the state legislature approved, and the governor signed, a law which provides additional state support for public school districts and open-enrollment charter schools seeking to expand high-quality pre-kindergarten programs. After receiving the funding applications, the Texas Education Agency, this week, formally told school districts what they would be receiving. For the next three years, the Tyler School District will receive over $800,00 and Longview schools will get over $662,000.
