Martin HeinesTYLER — Tyler Mayor Martin Heines Thursday night keynoted a unity event he arranged on the downtown square in the wake of recent police-related violence around the country. Heines singled out local police, Tyler’s commitments to faith, and the nonprofit community as examples of what makes Tyler strong. “So let’s continue to work together,” said Heines, “and let’s never take for granted our current relationships — and always commit to expanding our relationships with others.” Heines was joined by police, city councilmembers, an assortment of clergy, and dozens of onlookers. He added that Tyler sets a great example for other communities and needs to keep doing so. He advised, “Let’s keep it simple, and let’s keep it local. Our whole community values faith, hope, and love. Let’s continue that belief in one another.”
