Department of AgricultureTYLER – Smith County has been notified that family farmers are eligible to apply for low-interest emergency disaster loans from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for April storm damage. On June 29, President Barack Obama declared nine Texas counties as primary natural disaster areas, including Smith, Anderson, Cherokee, Upshur, Van Zandt and Wood counties. Another 25 counties were named contiguous counties, including Gregg, Henderson, and Rusk counties.

Family farmers are eligible to qualify for low-interest, emergency loans from the Farm Service Agency. FSA will consider each loan application on its own merits, taking into account the extent of losses, security available and repayment ability. Loan applications will be received through March 1, 2017 for production and physical losses incurred from April 17-30. The Smith County Farm Service Agency is located at 4209 Republic Drive and can be reached at 903-561-2050.
