New Charge Leveled Against Former East Texas Coach

HALLSVILLE – A former Harrison County coach, arrested in December has been arrested again on a new charge. Dean Michael McDaniel had been arrested and indicted on three counts of indecency with a child by exposure. McDaniel was arrested again on Monday and charged with improper relationship between educator and student. Following his arraignment, his bond on the latest charge was set at $15,000.

McDaniel, a track and cross country coach for 13 years at Hallsville ISD, resigned from the district, citing personal reasons. His resignation is effective December 31, and he will remain on paid administrative leave until that date. McDaniel entered a “voluntary” separation agreement with the district on September 25. Superintendent Jim Dunlap said in September that McDaniel resigned for “personal reasons.”A settlement between McDaniel and the district stipulates that McDaniel never work in Hallsville ISD again. The agreement also states the district and McDaniel agree not to talk badly of each other and agree to not sue each other. It also states that the district will seal all “negative documentation” related to McDaniel.
