tjc-possible-shooting-scene_11028299_ver1-0TYLER – Tyler Junior College Campus Police are conducting an investigation regarding shots fired on campus Monday evening at 11:42 p.m. In a news release issued to our news partner KETK, officials say the incident involved unidentified males coming to campus to confront a TJC student outside of a residence hall. According to the released, campus police responded immediately to the scene, secured the scene and also called Tyler Police to respond. The unidentified males fled the scene, and campus police made a determination that this was an incident isolated to a dispute initially involving a few individuals. Authorities say they determined that the incident did not pose an immediate threat to students throughout the campus. There were no injuries.

Safety is of paramount concern to TJC, and the college has zero tolerance for any behavior which violates school policies and criminal behavior, according to the statement. While it is still an ongoing investigation, TJC says it has taken immediate action to suspend students involved in the incident. Following further investigation, TJC officials say they will pursue all available actions including enforcement of any violations of school rules and policies as well as full prosecution of any criminal behavior.

According to KETK, more information is expected to be released about suspended students on Thursday. The shooting took place outside Sledge Hall, which is the dorm housing the TJC Apache football team. Tyler Police were also on campus Wednesday searching the scene with metal detectors. They also inspected an AC unit which was allegedly hit by a bullet. No arrests have been reported.
