Marijuana Fields Continue to Turn Up in East Texas
Posted/updated on: September 15, 2016 at 10:38 amEAST TEXAS — Several law enforcement agencies have discovered a marijuana field in Van Zandt County, according to a county official. It’s the latest in a series of such fields that have been found around East Texas in recent days. KETK reports the “pretty large” field is near the intersection of State Highway 19 and U.S. Highway 80 near Canton. The law enforcement official stated the find is the result of an ongoing investigation for the past several days.
Earlier, Anderson County officials responded to the scene of a major marijuana grow near County Road 336 (pictured). According to the Sheriff’s Office, 5,200 marijuana plants, with an estimated street value of $6 million, were discovered on Tuesday. Local, State and Federal Agencies are working together to remove the plants and destroy them. No arrests have been made but officials were searching for one suspect earlier in the day. The Sheriff’s Office could not say if the grow was related to another large marijuana operation discovered in the county on September 1. Smith County officials are continuing to investigate a marijuana grow reported earlier this week; they have one suspect in custory. More than 25,000 plants have been removed by law enforcement in the area during the past year.
