Mabry announced. According to a news release, over a 10-year period, UT Tyler has grown its total research spending by 1,273 percent, and the university has grown its federal research spending by 3,095 percent. Those increases put UT Tyler third in the nation among all universities – regardless of size – in both of those categories between 2004 and 2014, according to the latest Almanac. Top UT Tyler research areas within the period are education and biology.
“We’re very pleased with these standings in the Almanac,” said Dr. Michael Odell, vice president for research and technology transfer as quoted in a news release. “For the last decade, research has been a focus area for the university, and regarding federal dollars, we’ve been very competitive at the national level.” In 2004, university annual research grants were less than $1 million. In recent years, that amount has been as high as $12 million.
