wbondWHITEHOUSE — Whitehouse residents will soon vote on a $94.8 million school bond. If passed, the bond could bring improvements to facilities across the district, including some new schools. KETK reports, on Monday, the school district held a town hall meeting to give the community a voice, as well as answer any questions they had. “This bond is a fairly large project that is being presented to the taxpayers and what it would do is several major construction projects that would set the course for the district for a number of years to come,” said Superintendent Dr. Chris Moran. After evaluating facilities for three years, Dr. Moran said Proposition One includes more urgent needs, such as the replacement of aging facilities.

Proposition One totals $87.41 million and includes the following: replacement of Junior High, replacement of Brown Elementary, addition of Academic classrooms to the High School, renovation and addition to the Transportation Facility, addition of Fine Arts classrooms to the High School, renovation of Brown Elementary for Education Support Center, addition of a field house on the High School campus, Addition of Career Technical Education (CTE) classrooms and facilities to the High School, constructing new Tennis, Softball and Baseball facilities on the High School campus, constructing a new warehouse, replacing the High School roof and HVAC systems and purchasing land for the new Elementary school.

Proposition Two totals $7.39 million and includes renovations to the Athletic Complex and building a Multi-Use Facility on the High School campus.

Election day is November 8.

Whitehouse ISD Land Purchase Update:

“The Whitehouse Independent School District has signed a contract to purchase property located at 14584 County Road 2191 in Tyler, 75703. The district’s purpose for the 83.142 acres of land, pending closing, will be to construct future schools. The location is central to the Brown Elementary attendance zone and is located 1.3 miles due West of the northern boundary of the Whitehouse City Limit. If the bond election is successful, this site will be used to construct a replacement elementary campus for Brown Elementary School with a timeline to open for students in August 2018. It could also serve as a future site for a 6-8 campus if student enrollment requires the construction of another Jr. High in the future.”

School officials said during the meeting more than 10 sites were evaluated for the above land purchase.
