cityoftylerTYLER — The public is invited to attend an open house to be held Thursday by the Tyler Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) in an effort to amend the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). The MTP is the long range transportation plan for the MPO and contains a vision and goals for the Policy Committee to implement over the 25-year planning period, according to information from the city of Tyler.

The amendment involves updating the transportation projects identified for construction over the next 25 years to plan for revenue expected to be generated from the oil and gas taxes deposited into the State Highway Fund. This transfer was approved on Nov. 4, 2014 on the ballot measure known as Proposition 1 (Prop 1). The open house will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Tyler Development Center, Large Conference Room on W. Ferguson St. across from Tyler City Hall.

This open house kicks off a 30-day public comment period to be held from Oct. 13 to Nov. 12. The revisions will be considered for adoption at the MPO Policy Committee Meeting scheduled for Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. Staff from the Tyler Area MPO will be on hand to answer questions and provide information regarding the proposed amendments. The ultimate goal of the open house is to gather public comments on the proposed amendments. Citizens will also be able to provide feedback by contacting the MPO at mpo@tylertexas.com or by calling (903) 531-1175 ext 5. You can also go to http://www.tylerareampo.org for additional information about the MPO, the MTP, and the update process.
