longview-cityofLONGVIEW – The City of Longview has partnered with local businesses to add three more locations for glass recycling for a total of six drop-off locations. At each location, glass bottles and jars may be deposited into 95-gallon carts with yellow lids. Other kinds of glass such as light bulbs, mirrors, and auto glass will not be accepted. Glass recycling is not available for curbside collection at this time.

In 2014, the City of Longview created the first Glass Recycling drop-off at the Compost Facility. In 2015, volunteers from the SIGNS Initiative, which stands for Safe and Inviting Green Neighborhoods, approached the City for assistance with a pilot glass recycling program, starting with two 95-gallon carts in the parking lot of the Broughton Recreation Center. The program grew to two locations after that by adding an additional drop-off at Gregg County Precinct 2. The demand for more places to recycle glass grew out of the success of those two locations. At first, volunteers from the SIGNS Initiative emptied the carts, but the amount of glass received increased to the point where the City of Longview and SIGNS reached the conclusion it was time to add collection of these locations to the city’s recycling effort.
