drinking waterTYLER – Tyler is seeing a steady improvement in the quality of it’s water. Tyler Water Utilities continues to be in compliance with lead and copper standards for drinking water. This has come as the result of making several process changes that started nearly a year ago. The city recently collected 100 water samples for the second half the year. The test results show a continuing decline in lead and copper levels. The city says this verifies the effectiveness of the water treatment process improvements put in place last winter.

The current levels posted on the TCEQ Drinking Water Watch website are as follows:
* Lead = 2.08 ppb (86% below the EPA action limit of 15 parts per billion)
* Copper = 0.07 ppm (95% below the EPA action limit of 1.3 parts per million)

In a news release from the city, Mayor Martin Heins said, “I am pleased with the progress that is being made. By implementing many of the suggestions from the third party review, we have seen our water quality improve. This does not mean that we are done. We have a lot of work to do to ensure we are maintaining our infrastructure in a way that we can be proud of.”

City Manager Ed Brussard added, “The process changes made at the plants show significant improvements as documented by the recent test results. In the most recent sampling, Tyler is in compliance with standards set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for lead and copper.”
