TYLER – A new hospital is open in south Tyler today. The south campus of CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital opened at 7:00 on South Broadway at Cumberland Drive. Dr. Mark Anderson, Chief of Emergency Medicine, CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System, says it’s a state-of-the-art, 41, 200-square-foot hospital. He says the state-of-the-art facility offers a 24|7 emergency room, eight inpatient beds, onsite imaging and lab services, and five surgical suites.

One of the reasons for the move south is because of the growth in the area. Jason Proctor, Chief Operating Officer, CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospitals in Tyler, said, “The people of Tyler, Whitehouse, Bullard and this whole region need access to a true Emergency Department in this area.” And with the opening of this hospital, they have it.

Dr. Anderson said ““This facility represents an innovative, forward-thinking concept for health care, not just locally, but on a national scale.” He said the clinical staff are “cross trained” in emergency medicine to deliver care throughout the facility. “That means everyone can draw blood or run labs or fill other roles throughout the facility. The bottom line is that in a medical emergency, when minutes or even seconds matter most, we can examine and treat patients as efficiently and effectively as possible.”

According to a news release from the hospital, “CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital – South Tyler is a licensed acute care general hospital. It has eight in-patient beds and contains a comprehensive, full-service lab and pharmacy capabilities; an imaging center featuring a state-of-the-art MRI, 64-slice CT, Ultrasound and X-Ray; a third-floor surgery center with five world-class suites featuring the only Stryker® Studio 3 technology in Tyler (a data storage and search system for crucial medical files and images); and will offer the following specialties, in-house: Ear/Nose/Throat, Orthopedic Surgery, Podiatry, Plastic Surgery and Urology. There is also space allotted for expansion based on community and service needs.”
