TYLER – The East Texas Communities Foundation will host the second annual East Texas Giving Day. A total 177 nonprofits across East Texas have signed up to participate in this year’s event. Residents in 32 East Texas counties are invited to participate. Last year, because of a computer glitch, they were only able to raise nearly half a million dollars. They expect to do more this year since they have solved the problem by switching vendors. This year they hope to hit the million dollar mark. You can go to http://www.EastTexasGivingDay.org and donate Tuesday from 6:00am until 11:59pm. There will also be a running tabulation of donations.

“East Texas Giving Day is a great way for folks to support organizations that they already care about, as well as discover a few new favorites that are doing great work,” said Kyle Penny, President of East Texas Communities Foundation. He added, “the organizations will each have profiles available for viewing on the website that tale their stories.” Transactions will be securely processed through the Giving Day website and donors receive an immediate tax receipt via email at the conclusion of the donation process.

Penny said that Nonprofits have secured their own matching funds for the 18-hour event At last check, they had 45 nonprofits that have secured matching funds totaling over $220,000.
