Smith County Sheriff’s Office Accepted into an ICE Program

This came last Friday as Sheriff Larry Smith met with Immigration Customs Enforcement Field Office Director Samona Flores in Tyler. The sheriff also signed a Memorandum of Agreement between the sheriff’s office and Immigration Customs Enforcement. Next, six detention officers will be selected to attend the ICE Academy in Charleston, South Carolina. And, preparations are being made to install fingerprint equipment in the Smith County Jail which will be connected to the ICE fingerprint database. According to Sheriff Smith, “We believe this partnership will assist us tremendously in dealing with the criminal alien population who are committing serious crimes in Smith County.”
